1.   Summary

This product bulletin announces the November 28, 2007, availability of the Fibre Channel (FCP) Linux® Host Utilities 4.0 for First Customer Ship via NOW™ (NetApp on the Web).

The FCP Linux Host Utilities 4.0 is a host-based software product that delivers tools and documentation to support the integration of NetApp Fibre Channel storage systems with Red Hat® RHEL4 U4 host operating environments and the Symantec® Storage Foundation 5.0 MP1 product family (see system requirements below for summary configuration support).

The FCP Linux Host Utilities 4.0 also includes updated support for the RHEL® and SUSE® Linux host operating environments (see system requirements below for summary configuration support).

The Host Utilities 4.0 is required to ensure proper configuration and support of NetApp FCP storage systems, and it consists of:

·         The sanlun software tool to view paths to LUNs configured on NetApp storage systems

·         Diagnostic scripts for collecting and reporting host (OS, HBA), switch and NetApp storage configuration information.

·         Documentation describing how to configure an FCP connection to a NetApp storage system based on a Linux host, including commands and procedures

·         Note: The FCP Linux Host Utilities 4.0 does NOT include HBA drivers, which may be obtained from the NetApp support pages of the Emulex Web site at http://www.emulex.com/ts/index.html or the QLogic Web site at http://support.qlogic.com/support/drivers_software.asp (effective August 7, 2006) and installed using the Emulex HBAnyware or QLogic SANsurfer applications for the relevant vendor HBA models.

·         Note: The FCP Linux Host Utilities 4.0, like the other NetApp FCP Host Utilities and FCP Attach Kits, is a software-based product and does NOT include an HBA. NetApp sells the HBAs separately from the FCP Linux Host Utilities 4.0 for use in Linux host operating environments: Emulex LP11000 (NetApp part number X1086A-R6), LP11002 (X1087A-R6); QLogic QLE2460 (X1088A-R6), and QLE2462 (X1089A-R6).

B.      Host Utilities Content Structure

1)       HBA drivers are not included in the Host Utilities, and are available from the NetApp support pages of the Emulex Web site at http://www.emulex.com/ts/index.html or the QLogic Web site at http://support.qlogic.com/support/drivers_software.asp (effective August 7, 2006). Note that the HBAs that NetApp sells separately from the Host Utilities will have initially supported HBA firmware levels pre-installed. As new driver and firmware releases are qualified by NetApp, the Emulex and QLogic sites will be updated to include those distributions, which will correspond to the supported levels noted on the NetApp FCP Host Compatibility Matrix.

2)       The Host Utilities 4.0 will not install the HBA drivers or firmware (initially supported firmware levels are pre-installed).  HBA driver and firmware installation will be managed by Emulex Autopilot and QLogic SANsurfer driver installation and tool packages, as appropriate for the HBA model.

3)       NetApp documentation (Installation & Operation Guide, and Release Notes) is distributed as .PDF files on NOW and in the FCP Linux Host Utilities 4.0 Media Kit.

4)       The Media Kit (physical CD-ROM containing the Host Utilities software and electronic documentation) is an optional item that may be selected within the Quote Tool (December 2007), but which does not ship with the Host Utilities by default.

C.      Product Name, Part Number, and Quote Tool Configuration

1)       The FCP Linux Host Utilities 4.0 for Native OS reflects a general, inter-OS product name change from FCP Attach Kit, to meet partner and customer requests. The FCP Linux Host Utilities will continue to use existing part numbers SW-FAK-LINUX and SW-FAK-LINUX-MKIT.

2)       The FCP Linux Host Utilities is a virtual license sold on a per-physical-server basis, and customers may download the Host Utilities software via the NOW site or obtain the software via a physical Media Kit. The FCP Linux Host Utilities 4.0 will be available by download from NOW beginning November 13, 2007.
